Udaipur has many tourist places to visit, there are very nice sightseeing, attractions around Udaipur which are must see in Udaipur. Details on Udaipur Excursion. Some of these are :

Kumbhalgarh Fort: It is located 64 kms north of Udaipur in the wilderness, is the second most important citadel after Chittorgarh in the Mewar region. Cradled in the Aravali Ranges the fort was built in the 15th century by Rana Kumbha. Because of its inaccessibility and hostile topography the fort had remained un-conquered. It also served the rulers of Mewar as a refuge in times of strife. The fort also served as refuge to the baby king Udai Singh of Mewar. It is also of sentimental significance as it is the birthplace of Mewar’s legendary King Maharana Partap. The fort is self-contained and has within its amalgam almost everything to withstand a long siege.

Haldighati: It is located towards the south west of Nathdwara, is historical site which witnessed the great legendry battle fought between Maharana Pratap and the Mughal Emperor -Akbar in 1576 AD. The vast terrain that was supposedly covered with blood (the sand turned Red in colour) evokes a chill in the spine till date and envelopes a feel of nostalgia, this was the place where the heroic Chetak the gallant charger with his dedicated loyalty towards his chivalrous master (the Maharana Pratap) proved his worth by co-operating till his last breath

Ranakpur: The Jain temple at Ranakpur is a slice of heaven relocated on earth. This architectural marvel is as delicate as finely embroidered lace yet as imposing and complex in design as it is profoundly logical. As you stand before a single pillar, you realise that it is very different from the other 419 that supported this divine creation. While no two pillars in this lavishly carved temple are the same, this particular one was unique in a very special way – it was distinctly crooked. No, it was not the light playing tricks. It was intentionally built that way.

Ekling Ji: Eklingji Temple is one of the most famous temples of Rajasthan. Located in the town of Eklingji (Kailashpuri), the place got its popular name from the temple. Eklingji Temple is positioned at a distance of 22 km in the north of Udaipur, on the national highway no. 8. Eklingnath Temple is dedicated to the Lord Shiva of the Hindu religion. Initially, the temple was built in 734 A.D. by Bappa Rawal. Since that time, Eklingji has been the ruling deity of Mewar rulers.

Lake Pichola: Lake Pichola has two islands, Jag Niwas and the Jag Mandir. This lake is 4 km long and 3 km wide, originally built by Maharana Udai Singh II. There are many ghats, like the bathing and washing ghats, which can be approached through boats from the City Palace of Udaipur (Bansi Ghat). In the heart of the lake the Lake Palace stands, which is now converted into a heritage palace hotel. The lake remains fairly shallow even during heavy rains, and gets dry easily in times of severe drought.

Chittorgarh: Chittorgarh Fort has received the credit of being the largest fort of India. The massive fort is located on a high hill near the Gambhiri River. Chittorgarh Fort lies at a distance of 112 kms from the city of Udaipur. This fort was built by various Maurya rulers in the 7th century. This huge fort covers an area of 700 acres, extending to 3 kms in length and 13 kms in peripheral length. Standing on an elevated hill of 180m, the impregnable fort has witnessed three battles. Chittorgarh Fort is truly an embodiment of chivalry and pride of the Rajputs. The fort has a long story of romance, courage, determination and sacrifice. A glimpse of the fort still makes one to think the glory of the Rajputs who once lived here. The imposing Fort boasts of well-designed palaces, magnificent cenotaphs and huge towers. The Fort of Chittorgarh has a colossal structure that is secured by its several strong gateways.

Nathdwara: Shrinathji of Nathdwara is 48 km from Udaipur. The temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna with the diety’s image carved out of a single block of black marble. The temple is set amidst idyllic hills, it is known to be the second richest temple in the world. The structure of this temple is simple, but the aesthetic appeal of this temple is ceaseless. The image of Shrinathji is worth seeing and feeling the celestial beauty of the God. Lord Shrinathji symbolizes a form of Lord Krishna, when he lifted the ‘Govardhana’ (a hill). In the image, the lord is revealed with his left hand raised and the right is bunged in a fist.

Jaisamand Lake:Jaisamand Lake is renowned for being the second largest artificial lake in Asia. Located at a distance of 55 kms from the city of Udaipur, Jaisamand Lake is also known as Dhebar. In 1685, Maharana Jai Singh built this lake while making a dam on the Gomti River. This lake covers an area of 36 sq. km, stretches to the length of 14 km and width of 9 km. The lake is deep to the maximum of 102 feet and has a circumference of 30 miles. Jaisamand Lake was the largest artificial lake in Asia, till the time when Aswan Dam of Egypt was not constructed. The dam on this lake is worth mentioning due to its massive size. It is 1202 feet in length, 116 feet in height and width of 70 feet at the bottom.

We booked this hotel on a friends recommendation and i have to say that we had a very memorable and enjoyable 1 night stay at this hotel.. I wish we had more than one night here. we got one of the best room with a balcony over- looking one of the lakes in Udaipur,a heritage room with a Maharaja bed with beautiful interiors which gives us a feel of Rajasthan. All in all the stay at Swaroop Vilas ,made our visit to Udaipur memorable.
